Brain Challenge™ App Reviews

Ok but ignores trackpad taps sometimes

The animated "scientist" with the clipboard is kind of hokey although you can choose either a male or female. When playing some of the training games the app sometimes misunderstands my MacBook Air trackpad inputs. I sometimes get a "slow" rating because I find I have to tap repeatedly and often hard enough to make a positive click. With other apps and in general a single light tap is all I need to do, its the feather light tap ability that makes Appes Magic Trackpad so great and this app kind of ruins it. Because of this frustration I find myself questioning whether I want to even play the game. Its no good to me if I dont enjoy it.

?

another frustrating application from apple. It wont start. I click on it but it wont start.

Crashes on Opening

Doesn’t seem to work with latest Apple OS. Crashes before it opens.

So clever :)

is a very fun game. good graphics here. ill play it every day to excercise my mind.

very cute!

Finally here! There are a lot of categories and levels for your brain, speed and menthal arithmetic.

Wow

I never liked maths and stuff but with this game Ive realized I can solve problems easily.

This is one of my most favorite games of all times!!!

Gameloft, you should seriously work on improving graphics in your games for the Mac, iPhone and iPad. Seriously Im getting tired of seeing all those pixels and bad 3D drawings in your games. Also you should improve the controls in this game, think of some new methods.

Not fun, feels like work, and there is no support

I cant believe reviewers are calling this "game" fun. This is worse than drills from grade school, and the annoying sounds dont help. The animated "scientists" are pathetic, moving their mouths in silence and repeatedly tapping on the screen, and theres absolutely no support for the game, no help files and nothing on the developers website. Simply tedious.

One of the best games on here, but has on annoying bug.

Love the game, like to play it with family and friends, great at improving memory skills, but on simple bug, there does not appear to be a simple way to log out and log back in as another user without quitting the app. Im sure this will be addressed in the next update and only get better and better. Best value on here, would have paid more than a buck.

Controls are terrible

Controls are terrible; sound sometimes works, sometimes it does not; makes the game more aggravating than enjoyable - pass on this one!

App icon design

The application icon design so bad!

thoroughly unsatisfied

The graphic quality for this game is very poor. I also found the controls difficult to use. The biggest let down about this application is its ability to measure skill and progress, it would flunk Stephen Hawking.

Just like school, only worse

This game is awful. Its like a rip-off of Big Brain Academy for DS. Very difficult and frustrating. DO NOT BUY!

Challenging, takes practice

Many comments in review indicate it is not fun or difficult to win. It is in fact very difficult and the whole point is to train one to think quickly in ways our brains do not perform daily. You can get better if you work at it. This is something my family has done and it was frustrating at first. I would give it 5 stars as an app but think it important to highlight that what the game really trains someone for is being good at the game, not true intelligence builder or mind expander. You get good at what you practice. This app would be similar Tetris or Bop it in that there may be no purpose but if you practice it you will improve and that is when the fun or satisfaction is apparent.

Like the games -- dislike the intrusive "character"

The games are fun, and I think they are functional -- they do train you to react more swiftly. However, some of the games cannot just be played -- they they have to be learned. Some of them (the whirling drill, the double balances that dont seem to have any obvious distinction) are not especially easy or intuitive. However, Im confident Ill "get" all the games, eventually. And, as stated above, I think the games themselves are generally challenging and fun. My principal issue is with the online "scientist" character, who is just plain unpleasant and, far more often than not, highly discouraging. Since I can read my own scores, and note the improvements or lack thereof, the last thing I need is an nagging female voice reminded that I got an F ("Too bad! Are you sure youre up to it?"). Seriously! Do they really think that an animated character who makes blatantly unkind remarks to people -- I would venture to guess, in most cases, older people (this reviewer is a, uh, Baby Boomer) -- who are trying to improve their brain function and reaction time -- is a good idea? I imagine you put a certain amount of effort into developing this character, but did anyone really think it through? Also, I DO NOT want a game that complains about being awakened at a late hour. Or tells me when to go to sleep. My computer, my hours. I have to remind myself to mute the sound before I try to play this app. Only way I can minimize the unpleasant part.

Fun game. Not as fun as it is on PS3.

This game is cool. I have it for Playstation 3, so its a lot better on PS3 because of the button functions.

OMGosh

Horrible game. How about some simple instructions because we all are not used to the common core way of doing things. I think its poorly designed. Maybe Lumonisty is more expensive but surely it trains the brain. To me this just frustrates me to no end.

Good!

Research has shown that games of this nature do in fact increase cognitive abilities and sustain memory. With that said, the developer should check their facts. The game opens stating that we use 10% of our brains. There has been no evidence proving this to be true. Multiple clinical studies have shown this in fact to be wrong. Outside of that, the games are fun, and increasingly challenging. I try to play once to twice a day and have noticed an increase in my cognitive performance.
